How many times have we heard that there must be a better way! Often the so called best solution for ADHD seems anything but, when we consider all the controversy and the fact that nobody seems to agree on anything. However there a few cardinal principles which we can apply and use these as light to guide us along the difficult path of finding ADHD solutions.

A world expert on ADHD
I have long admired the work of Dr William Pelham who has researched and written on ADHD and is regarded as a world expert. He is the Director of the Center for Children and Families at the University at Buffalo and has written over 275 papers and books on the subject of ADHD. His work is recognized now by many medical authorities but not necessarily by the drug companies who are manufacturing mind altering drugs by the ton.

Behavior modification is a must
One of the cardinal principles he has always advocated in ADHD solutions is that any treatment regime for ADHD MUST include behavior modification as this is by far the best solution for ADHD. He has also shown very clearly in scores of research projects that the effects of the psychostimulant drugs tend to lose their power after only three years.

The poor ADHD child who has suffered many side effects of weight loss and insomnia is left without having made any progress at all. If his parents have not implemented the most basic parenting skills, the chances of him overcoming or even managing his ADHD are pretty slim. Hardy the best solution for ADHD!

Problems with conventional meds
Looking at alternative medication is something every one of use has to face up to and we should be able to judge them calmly and accept or reject them according to our children’s needs.
