Table Contents

How do I make a table of contents on Microsoft Word?

Is there an easy way of doing this? I am making an English portfolio and need to have a table of contents at the beginning. Thanks!

ASSUMING OFFICE XP OR 2003 (maybe 2000)

INSERT, select REFERENCE and then INDEX AND TABLES.

Click the TABLE OF CONTENTS tab, select your formating and then click the OK button.

Whatever text you want in your table of contents has to be marked as LEVEL 1, or 2 or whatever structure you want it to follow. Any information that you don’t want in the table of contents should be marked BODY TEXT.

It’s really simple with Microsoft word.

If you cant see the OUTLINING MENU BAR or It disappears then Click VIEW, then TOOLBARS and the check OUTLINING.

TO set text as BODY TEXT or LEVEL X, you need to Select it and then goto the the OUTLINING MENU BAR and SELECT what TYPE of information is highlighhted, from the dropdown list.

You can right click your table of contents any time and Select UPDATE FIELD to see how your table of contents appears. Alternativly you can click UPDATE TOC in the OUTLINING MENU BAR.
